The Umps are Yankee fans...

June 4, 2007 - Monday
The Umps are Yankee fans...

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Top of the ninth. It's raining hard at Fenway, and I'm one of the unfortunate grandstand spectators not covered by the overhang (but, I'm not complaining because I scored the tix from a generous friend). Our talented and next-to-perfect closer comes to the plate, and the Fenway Faithful are grateful to see him make the journey from the bullpen to the mound..."Papelbon's in, it's going to be OK." And, then - he gives up a homerun to - of all Yankees - the ultra-evil A-Rod. I'll spare you the rest of the ugly details...that's all there is to tell. But, I'm not bashing Papelbon...that's the game, that's how it goes...It's not like Pokey Reese was at the plate. Poor Pokey. BUT - I will say this: The Fenway Faithful, in general, were very unhappy with the calls made by the umps last night (and Friday, too) - so, I'm chalking it up to the fact that the umps must be Yanks fans.

To all Red Sox fans everywhere....don't worry that you had little sleep last night, don't whine about that summer cold you're catching because you were exposed to the rain and the cold late into the night (unless you were watching from the warmth of your armchair)....just sit back and remind yourselves: "We're still 12.5 games ahead!!!" - and then, get a good night's sleep.

Wishing you pleasant dreams of the World Series and, as always, Happy Travels!
